Design Excellence
We design to capture the imagination, excite the spirit, and create structures of lasting beauty and functionality.
Our design culture transcends fixed opinions and easy answers to support curiosity and thoughtful questioning. Through our work we pursue the path of open-minded collaboration, exploration, discovery, and innovation.
By emphasizing performance, we help our clients reduce their risk, optimize performance, and realize their goals. We engage limitations such as budgets, schedules, codes, regulations, and site conditions as opportunities, and believe the process of place making must be transformative, enduring, and support all levels of life, work, and creativity.

Interior Design
Beauty with a Purpose
Our interior design services begin by assessing our clients’ goals, visions and expected return on investment. Using an interactive approach from project initiation to occupancy, we create the desired atmosphere, assess all functional and aesthetic needs, and incorporate financial evaluations. All aspects of the project – aesthetics, technology, accessibility, and environmental concerns – are considered during each phase.
Our experts guide clients through the design process, leading the way toward solutions that look great and improve functionality. This results in interior designs reflect the culture of our clients and add lasting value to their properties.

Engineering
Design Synergy
As a multi-disciplinary firm, engineering is an integral part of our process from the beginning of each project. Our engineers work closely with planners, architects and interior designers to give vital input, and ensure environmental integration, energy-efficiency, cost control, user-friendliness, long-term systems integrity, maintainability, and sustainability.
Our in-house engineers also provide services for engineering projects independent of architectural design services. Our experience includes design, commissioning and start-up assistance for central energy plants, secure data centers, refrigerated warehouses, and telecommunications facilities.
Through our subsidiary, Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc. (LAN) we offer a full array of additional infrastructure services including power generation, transmission and distribution; streets, highway, and bridge engineering; waste disposal systems; and water supply and treatment systems.

Listen: Conversations with Woods Architecture
Sustainability
Beauty with a Purpose.
As designers of the built environment, we are on the front lines of sustainability. Guided by a strong social conscience, we pride ourselves on designs that improve quality of life for current and future generations. Through our commitment to green design and the 2030 Challenge, we are helping change the way facilities interact with the natural environment.
A History of Sustainability
Woods Architecture has been designing energy and environmentally-conscious buildings since the 1970s. In 1975, we designed the Lockheed 157 Laboratories Building, one of the first buildings to bounce daylight deep into a building using light shelves. In 1976, we received the AIA’s Edward D. Kemper Award for “vision and leadership to lead the AIA to take its first steps in the field of energy conservation in the built environment.” Today, we stay at the cutting edge of sustainability with LEED Platinum projects in the US, and Estidama Pearl-rated projects in the Middle East.
LEED-ing the Way
Woods are at the forefront of our industry in LEED-related programs. We take a comprehensive, integrated design approach to sustainability, recognizing that it is not only about energy efficiency, but also minimizing site disturbance, and encouraging alternative transportation, efficient material and resource use, improving interior air quality, and reducing water use. Our design teams assess life-cycle costs to determine cost-effective and sustainable solutions, and have extensive experience in specifying sustainable solutions that are the most economical over the life of a facility.
The 2030 Challenge
Along with the Institute of Architects, we have a firm-wide commitment to the 2030 Challenge, a resolution to reduce the carbon emissions of our projects to zero by 2030.
